What is Far From?
1
Far From is a publication and editorial studio exploring the atmospheric, the secluded and the remote — places where you can still imagine what travel was like before it became tourism. It features stories, stays and guides for travel beyond the crowds.
How can I follow new stories and guides?
What kind of travel does Far From cover?
2
Far From is for travellers who care not only about where they go, but how they want to feel. It focuses on slower, more meaningful journeys beyond over‑tourism — wilderness experiences, desert crossings, remote road trips, culturally rooted travel and secluded stays with character. Stories cover Scotland, the Sahara, Patagonia, the Atacama Desert, the Tibetan Plateau and other places where old‑world quiet still lingers.
Are Far From guides practical or editorial?
3
Both — this is what makes Far From distinct. Stories blend deeper editorial insight with useful, experience‑led practicalities. Guides look beyond the obvious: from Tibet and the Sahara to carefully curated recommendations, route ideas, seasonal context and places chosen for atmosphere and sense of place. There are also guides to travelling more imaginatively, avoiding crowds, rethinking classic routes such as the NC500, and exploring places through residencies or slower forms of movement. Alongside these sit reflective essays, award‑winning photography and Wonders — a scannable edit of unspoiled, uncrowded highlights for your itinerary.

Does Far From work with hotels, lodges or travel brands?
Far From was founded by Nicholas Holt, a British creative director, photographer and writer whose work has appeared in The Royal Photographic Society Journal, SUITCASE, JRNY, Bradt and Geographical. The publication draws on decades of travel across deserts, mountains and remote regions — in search of atmospheric hotels, local eateries and secluded lodges with integrity.
Yes — selectively. Far From collaborates with atmospheric stays, boutique hotels, low‑impact lodges and travel brands aligned with its editorial sensibility. Partnerships are story‑led and focus on original photography, films and written features with a strong sense of place. Nicholas has worked as a creative director with some of the world’s most distinguished brands.
