FOR TRAVELLERS IN SEARCH OF WONDER

I started Far From with a simple instinct: to seek out the atmospheric, the secluded and the remote — places where you can still imagine what travel was like before it became tourism.

It’s a trusted guide for travellers who ask not just where they want to go, but how they want to feel — choosing deeper connections with the world over tick‑lists and tourist traps.

Far From is for curious travellers who want to explore the world thoughtfully, far from crowds and digital noise.

Because the journeys we make, make us.

WONDERS

An evolving edit of places to build a journey around — from iconic landscapes to quieter, unsung alternatives that reveal a truer sense of place. Designed to be both inspiring and practical, these are places that stay with you.

STAYS

Far From seeks out high-character stays, escapist boltholes, and low-impact lodges — places where design, setting, and story are in quiet alignment. Each is captured through cinematic photography and long-form writing, creating an editorial portrait of place.

STORIES

Thoughtful explorations of the world through long-form storytelling and photography. These are narratives shaped by experience — immersive, reflective, and accompanied by practical briefings for those inspired to follow.

GUIDES

Far From Guides look beyond the obvious to where the true riches of travel lie. From the Sahara’s otherworldly landscapes to the edges of the Tibetan Plateau, they explore imaginative and slower ways of travelling.

BOOKS

An edit of books that explore destinations through literature, photography, and art — offering context before you arrive and deeper understanding once you’re there. Reading a place reveals its cultural texture, history, and nuance in ways no itinerary can.

ABOUT NICHOLAS HOLT

I’m drawn to places with integrity and where old-world quiet still lingers — the atmospheric hotel, the secluded lodge, and the end-of-the-road feeling.

I value a bang-on bowl of beans in a medina as much as fine dining. I love simplicity and embrace luxury, if the atmosphere is right.

Over time, I’ve grown less tolerant of crowds and more attuned to timing — the shoulder seasons, the edges of summer, even the off-season. The weather may be less predictable, but so is the experience..

My perspective is shaped by years working as a creative director, photographer, and writer — always searching for places with depth, character, and a sense of story.

I feel most alive moving slowly through unspoilt landscapes — on foot, by horse, by camel, or by 4x4 — guided by those who understand the land.

Far From is a collection of places, experiences, and perspectives that stay with you. The outer and outer journeys and the rare feeling of discovering somewhere — or something — that quietly changes you.

“When I was very young and the urge to be someplace else was on me, I was assured by mature people that maturity would cure this itch. When years described me as mature, the remedy prescribed was middle age. In middle age I was assured greater age would calm my fever and now that I am fifty-eight perhaps senility will do the job. Nothing has worked. Four hoarse blasts of a ships's whistle still raise the hair on my neck and set my feet to tapping. The sound of a jet, an engine warming up, even the clopping of shod hooves on pavement brings on the ancient shudder, the dry mouth and vacant eye, the hot palms and the churn of stomach high up under the rib cage. In other words… I fear the disease is incurable.”
